Wow Inmates-- it's been over 2 years since I've worked on this wiki. This is ReticentOne, an administrator for the Apocalypse no Toride Wiki. I must confess-- when this manga ended, I was more than a bit relieved. Not only because it was such a fun rollercoaster ride, and I wanted it to end before it got boring. But also because helping out on the wiki started feeling less like fun and more like work :( I would go to my real job, come home, and start this, my second job. I was burned out by time the manga ended. Just crashed-out tired of it. Disappeared from the wiki and disappeared from the Facebook pages (yep, if you didn't know, there are 2 AnT FB pages-- a general fan page that launched first, and then a page for this wiki, whose link …Read more >
With the manga almost over I'd like to say thank you to everyone who has helped out with the wiki. Be it edits, comments, images, conversations... Thank you everyone.
Let's keep going. There are still lots of things to do, and lots of things needed.
- A policy for posting on the wiki is long overdue.
- Character current plots need to be brought up to speed.
- The wiki needs a wordmark.
- We also need a favicon.
- Then we need to get some affiliates from other sites.
- Fan art is another thing I'd love to see more of on the site.
- And images, images, images. The more the better.
These things (and things I know I've forgotten) will help keep the wiki alive for a long time.Read more >
This was a great ride, but now it's nearly over. We got and ending, but will get the "perfect" ending in October.
I loved seeing the characters part ways. I mean sure it hurt my heart to watch the guys go their seperate ways, but I think it would be natural for people to want to go back to living the lives they had before such a crisis. Yoshioka's exit was the hardest for me to watch. He's so random and left his fate up to chance. Classic Yoshioka. But did he he go right back into the Tokyo Bay Aqua-line tunnel? If he did, all the zombies (I hope) were destroyed in the explosion Yamanoi set off. But still. I hope he gets himself someplace safe.
I think Maeda and Iwakura will stay together. Theirs was the deepest bond among Cell 4, so I'm gla…Read more >

So many things have gone on since my last post. But the most important thing is...
IWAKURA IS DEAD!!!
Chapter 43: Bitter Acid Symphonie. I was shocked when it happened. But my major problem is that we didn't get to see him die. We only got bloody handprints, a blood stain on the ground and Maeda's expression as he looked under a rock and saw a crushed body. And the words of the merged / infant Bokor to rely on.
Pardon my language since I don't swear very often. But what a sh!tty way to kill him off. It was a bullsh!t way to handle this major event. The death of Iwakura, member of Cell 4. How could you avoid showing one of the most anticipated fights in the series? He deserved more than a visualization of what he might have looked like as he c…Read more >
Our wiki just got two new pages: one for the Creators, and one for a list of chapter title references.
I've FINALLY created a page for Karashi Yuu and Inabe Kazu. That right there is the last/first position of their names. But I wrote their names first/last on the creator page. I might change this down the line. English speakers use first/last, but I'd rather use the Japanese last/first format. I dunno, leave your thoughts on the matter here or on the Facebook page.
The other page is a list of chapter titles and the trivia behind them. The official page name is "Chapter List and References". I'm not really diggin' it. I've named the link to it "Title References" for the sake of space, but I'd rather it be "Title Trivia". "Title References" and…Read more >
I had to change the layout for the "Chapters and Volumes" page. There are a lot of awkward gaps of space in it, but the old way was near impossible to read on a phone or other mobile device. Sorry, I had no idea how bad it was. Maybe I'll fool around with the layout some other time, like after the summary for chapter 42.
I also had to correct the "Community Portal" link on the main page. It was wrong at the bottom of the page, in the box that tells you ways to contribute to the wiki. Sorry again, I have no idea how long that was screwed up.
Lastly, I've been taking a break from the wiki and the 2 Apocalypse no Toride Facebook pages, but I'll get back to work real soon. We've got Chapter 42 to talk about, and there's always more images to be …Read more >
There have bee some changes going on here at the AnT wiki. Good changes.
First, I've added the option to create Top 10 Lists. I didn't know about this, but you can create a list about anything you'd like, and others can vote on which they like best. I'll write more about it another time but if you make one up just remember to add it to the category "Top 10 Lists" so we all can find it. You can find the link for it on the navigation menu under the "Apocalypse no Toride" heading. Check it out.
Next, I've enabled the Achievements option. Now you can earn badges for the things you do on the site, like uploading images, making pages, making edits, things like that. I really wish I'd have enabled this a long time ago. I've made over 1,500 edits b…Read more >
Bokors are all the rage with the kids nowadays...
Bokors have taken over our fair manga and our poor heroes are having the worst time fighting them off. As our guys and gal deal with the Bokors on the Tokyo Bay Aqua-line, here at the AnT wiki we are dealing with Bokor's on the navigation menu.
There is a new sub-menu called "Bokors" and it's for... you know, Bokors. They are in order by their confirmation of Bokor status in the manga. In other words: 1st (blonde) Bokor, Maeda, Dr. Sakagami, Female Bokor, Noiman, 6th Bokor (streroids guy) and Infant Bokor (female and 6th in their merged state).
This brought up an old but important issue discussed a long time ago. This problem was addressed nearly a year ago by our wiki's founder, Shion Hayasak…Read more >
I just added an image gallery to Chapter 3: Highway XXX Revisited. In this chapter the guys fight zombies throughout the Academy. Yamanoi explains that these crazy cannibals are infected with a virus. He believes this virus evoled the infected people into something both similar but no longer human. Maeda finds a phone and calls his family. They are safe for a moment, but then he hears a commotion in the background and the line goes dead. Having nothing else to do, Yoshioka proposes that they go to Maeda's house- with the Academy's only vehicle. Unfortunantly, by the time they get there it is too late. Maeda's family have already become monsters. Pondering what to do next, the boys see what appears to be a mountain on the road ahead of them…Read more >
First off I'd like to apologize for not blogging in a while. The wiki is still being worked on but sometimes I'm too tired to blog about what I've just done. I'll try to communicate more, both here and on the Facebook page.
Anyway, I just added image galleries to chapters 1 and 2. Actually, I added an image gallery to chapter 1 last week, and just now added an image gallery to chapter 2.
Chapter 1 is a bit mild. Mostly stuff about Maeda's incareration and the daily interactions between the inmates. But chatper 2 is extremely violent. The infected overrun the Shouran Academy, and they attack anything that moves. I was shocked to see how graphic this chapter was, but in a good way. I'd forgotten thanks to the craziness currently going on. Just…Read more >
Hello.Today I worked on Maeda and Yamanoi's profile pages. Maeda's page needed images, and Yamanoi's page, well... Yamanoi's page was a code-crazy-mess! I have no idea how that mess came to be, but all the "span" & "p" crap is gone now. I also have no idea how long it's been that way. Sorry about that guys. I'm doing so much that some things slip through the cracks. Yamanoi is dead, so I don't worry too much about his page anymore. I just randomly found that mess while working on Maeda's page.
Maeda's page is good for the most part. But it still needs a bit more. It's lacking citations down towards the later arcs, like "Journey to the Sea Firefly" and "The Sea Firefly". Also, his summaries for some of these arcs are too short. I wrote some …Read more >
Wow, I haven't blogged in a long time. Sorry people, but I've been busy and a bit burned out.
Anyway, I just completed the summary for Chapter 39: New Born. It's pretty wtf and gross. I had a hard time working with the images on it. I know it's a zombie manga but still. Just reading it is not the same as staring at grossness page after page for summary sake.
This chapter is about the big guy that showed up in Chapter 38. We get to see him, the female Bokor and a lot of weirdness. All I can say without spoiling anything is that a big question about Bokors gets answered. There's not a lot of fighting, but there is a lot of ick. -ReticentOneRead more >
There have been some changes on the wiki, as well as a few on going projects:
- The background is now black.
- The navigation bar and buttons are now dark red.
- The subtitles of the Chapter Infobox are now dark red.
- There is a "Featured Article" portal on the main page.
- There is a "Latest Chapter" portal on the main page.
- Images are being added to the Chapter Infoboxes.
- Long chapter image names are being shortened.
There are still some things the wiki needs:
- A watermark
- A favicon
- Affiliates (once a watermark is created).

Today has been one of the busiest, tiresome and best days for me on this wiki, but it was well worth it.
I cannot express how happy this makes me. This has been a thorn in my side for months and months. But now it's done. The next hurdle of course is to add an image gallery to the bottom of each chapter page. But that can wait and be picked at over time. The important thing is that every chapter you read will have at least 3 images to go along with the summary text. Images are so crucial to a wiki devoted to a manga. We can always use more, so do not hesitate to upload whatever you have.
One of the jobs I've assigned myself as an admin is to make sure all of the usable images on our wiki appear on at least one page. I say 'usable' because so…

Ret1 here. I have not forgotten about all the site changes I wanted to make. I've been really busy working with images and have not had the time to work on templates. The main template I really need help with is a character portal. I need small boxes that I can put characters' images and names into, and links to their biography page. The other templates, like 'featured chapter' and 'featured character' (and a possible 'featured image') are a lot easier to make up.
I'm still very much interested in changing the theme. I really would like a dark red menu bar and a black background.

So I finally added images to Chapter 37. And just in time too. Crunchyroll has a countdown timer that says we have about 8 days before Chapter 38 comes out.
This chapter is pretty good. Hitotsukabuto shows up at the Sea Firefly because he wants to ensure that Dr. Sakagami Yukko makes an M-virus cure. Turns out that Daisy has recently been bitten by a zombie and he wants her to stay human long enough so he can kill her himself. He's a cold one he is. But Yoshioka is all like, "I don't give a f---! Stay away from Maeda!" Awesome!

I skipped over some chapters without images and added images to Chapter 26 instead. 'Cause I felt like it :p Not only does it have images in the summary, there is also a small image gallery at the bottom of the page. Also the Death Tally is back again. I have to add it to all of the later chapters, especially since **** has died.
Anyway, chapter 26 is called "Damned Damned Damned". It's the chapter where we learn Cell 4 and Hanabata Shinpei survived their fall from the Academy's roof top. I finally created a character infobox! Hurray! The Cell Four guys have it, as does the Bokor, Hitotsukabuto and several others. You can see how to fill it out here.
These are some of the things I've noticed while working with the character infobox:
- Anyone can edit these infoboxes, even if you are not logged in. That's a great idea I think. New users and visitors can all work together on this.
- Anyone can add this infobox to a page. Just erase the existing profile image (the infobox needs to go in that spot on the page). Next, add the template Character Infobox. Fill out all the fields you have information on. Then add the profile image within the Image field by typing image: and the name of the image. Example: image:10 Iwakura Profile.png

I'm happy to have stayed with this wiki for so long. It's been about a year now since I started working here. It was rough in the beginning for me. I wanted to help out so badly but I was scared I'd damage something if I tried. I didn't know how to edit existing text. Or how to upload images. Or how to create new pages. I asked for permission to help out, and no one was there to answer.

I've been working on ways to spruce up the main page. I had everything planned out-- I even tested the widths on a practice wiki. But for some reason the right column portals were always too wide. So I've removed them for now. This is too bad because one of them was the "contribute" portal, which I will add to the left side of the page until further notice.
Also, I realize the main page is missing a lot of sections that I said I'd add in the last blog. I haven't added a character menu, "Featured Article", "Affiliates" or "Featured Character" yet. Changes... They be a comin'.
The main page of this wiki needs a major overhaul. This has been a major irritation of mine for a long time. But I didn't have the wikitext knowledge or guts to make changes. Now I understand things a little bit better, and can do something helpful. We won't have the world's best ever main page, but I can fix it up a bit. I'm no master at wikitext, but I can create portal templates for each of the new elements I'm proposing based upon the existing rounded-off portals we already have.
This is a draft of what I'd like to do. I know it looks busy. I know it looks like a lot to add. But hopefully it'll help with navigation, attractiveness, user interaction and conformity with other (manga) wikis. I am not saying tha…Read more >
Yamanoi "Noiman" "Neumann" Mitsuru is dead.
Chapter 34 shows him valiantly sacraficing himself to save Cell 4 and the Hanabatas. It gave me a lot of respect for him, having been through such a rough childhood and then having to fight his way through one reform school to the next. He was a stone cold SOB, but he also cared about the survival of his mother, comrades, and the chance of curing the viruses. So big ups to Yamanoi.
Like always, I'll state that he's my least favorite character. I can't even say I loved to hate him, because his rudeness, aloofness and condescending behavior rubs me wrong. So I finally got around to adding images to Chapter 14- "Roll over Wagner". It's the chapter where Yamanoi rips the Bokor a new one while "examining" him. We learn that The Bokor's eyes have three pupils. We learn that 'he' no genitals or excretory orafices. And we see that he's got a souped-up healing factor that would rival the X-Men's Wolverine.
It is also the chapter where those darn Nakazaki brothers screw around and free the Bokor while playing hooky from Yamanoi's presentation. I love how they think Cell 4 are holding a woman hostage in the solitary confinment room!

I needed to take a break from text and images, so I decided to tackle one of my annoyances: the chaper infobox. There were some discrepancies with it that I've mentioned in an older blog post. Two versions of the same infobox were circulating the wiki. So I fixed the code a little bit and updated all 35 chapters for uniformity. Can you say 'tedious'? This doesn't have to be the final product however. We can tweek colors too. In fact, I would like to do a total overhaul on this site, in particular the color scheme. I want to rearrange the main page as well, but more on that another time.

Still no images for chapter 12. Still no templates. Still no gallery. It's hard when there's 2 Facebook pages going on as well. And real life. Can't forget that ;) Sickness doesn't help either. Chapter 34 dropped on Friday, September 6th, 2014. It's all about rescuing the guys from the car in the Tokyo Bay Aqua-line. It's pretty awesome. He's still my least favorite Cell 4 member, but he's closing the gap between himself and Yoshioka, my 3rd favorite Cell 4 member.
We get to see what happened once the police got ahold of him after the murder. His mother was crazy as ever. What else is new? I only wish we could have seen an image or two of young Yamanoi being led to the cop car. It would have had more of an impact I think, to see such a young child in handcuffs and being shouted at. I'm back from vacation. It was really nice seeing my family after over a year. But now it's time to reopen my wing of the Academy and get back to wiki work.
I'm planning on removing the long-winded volume summaries in favor of shorter ones. I've looked at other wikis and they don't drone on about such things, so I'm going to follow their lead. All of that text is intimidating and off-putting; I just couldn't see it because I wrote it. They're gone on Monday (9-8-14) if there are no objections.
I'd also like to add images to Chatper 12, "He's Electric". The one where Cell 4 comes back from the JSDF and Riku goes berserk at the end. I can't believe I put up pictures for chapter 11 and 13 but skipped over 12. False. I totally believe it because…Read more >

Where the heck are those two guards?! They're probably in hiding. Maybe they assume that the inmates will get revenge on them for being... guards. I've got a running tally of all the chapters that have/don't have images. As of Friday, August 15th, 2014,
20 chapters have images and 13 chapters need images. Those in need are:
11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 20, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 28
A part of me is glad that I skipped around. That spreads out the emptiness. I know it looks bad to have so many chapters without images this late in the game. I noticed a while back that there are in fact two Chapter infobox layouts on this wiki:
I call the one with the title "Smells Like Dead Spirit" template "A", and the one with the title "Chapter 14" template "B". I am not sure which I like better.
I'm leaning towards "A" because it promenantly displays the chapter name, which the page name does not. I've mentioned how I miss the chapter names being the page names. I'm even considering renaming all of the pages in order to bring the trend back. But putting the chapter name at the top of the infobox looks a bit c…

I haven't blogged in a while, so I wanted to check in real quick before I go to bed. I added some pictures to Chapter 18 / "Yoshiaki, Can You Hear Me?". It's a pretty cool chapter. I really like how Yoshioka, Yamanoi and Iwakura worked together to save Maeda. I also like how excited Yoshioka was when he explained why the Bokor was only attracted to Maeda. "Maeda-kun is the only one for me, tee-hee!". He's so silly.

A long time ago I wrote out a list of relationships between the C4 members. But I'd forget about it, or felt uncertain as to how/where to put it on a page. Then someone created a relationships heading in Hitotsukabuto's bio a while back, but I never acted on it. I've been adding links to the chapters, and I'm going to work harder on adding chapter images. I'm not crazy about the placement of some of the chapter images, so feel free to shuffle things around.
Also, I'd like to add a Gallery. Soon. This week. I've been itching to add images that don't fit into the chapter/character/location summaries for a very long time. During the process of searching for image

- Should we add galleries to the end of every character/location/chapter page instead of giving them their own Menu location?
- I'm not too crazy about that, since I like the idea of having galleries located independen…
So I spent all of my day (after work that is) on this wiki. I only planned on checking in real quick... and ended up adding links to like 10 pages or something. No es bueno. My offline life needs me!
Besides adding links I wrote up a brief summary for the Guards. I'll find and add some pictures to it later. And I dropped the link for an ApNoTo Facebook page. That one no longer exists. Where The Heck Is Chapter 34?!
I'm writing this on July 7th, 2014 (United States). Isn't it usually out by now? I'm always late to read it, so I told myself to check in earlier. But it's not out and I don't know what's up. Is this normal? Around what day of the month do new chapters come out?
Watch, I'll make a big fuss about it and then I'll wake up in the morning to ApnoTo. I sure hope so, 'cause I wanna to see what Yamanoi's powers look like so badly! He's really smart, so I bet his control of the infected and the shapes he'll make with them will be interesting.Read more >
So I added some things to the site. First I added a "Skills" heading in Yoshioka, Maeda and Yamanoi's profiles (Iwakura already has one.) Here we can add info about unique traits they all have.
Next I added subheadings to the "History" section of some profiles, the Cell Four guys for now. They are, with a rough estimate of their chapters:
The Beginning of the Outbreak (chapters 1-4)
JSDF Weapons Run (chapters 5-11)
The Death of the First Bokor (chapters 12-18)
The Child of Light Cultists (chapters 19-27)
Journey to the Sea Firefly (chapters 28-current)
This way we can break up the history section into story arcs. I just randomly created the names for the arcs based on what goes on in them. If anyone has a better way to label them, or official wor…

Here are some technical things I think the wiki could benefit from:
- Can anyone make templates? In particular infoboxes? I'd like to add character infoboxes.
- I'd also like to add chapter pictures to the chapter infoboxes, but I think that's an issue of sizing images just right. I tried it on a different wiki and couldn't make it work.
- Can anyone make up a favicon? I've tried to use Maeda's face and the Bokor's triple pupil, but I couldn't make it work. Maybe the program/images I used were wrong?
- How about a wordmark? I wanted to use the "Apocalypse no Toride" text that you see on the left side of the cover of Volume 1, and just rotate it. I have a pretty clean image that doesn't have Japanese characters over the English text, but there's still some…
So I've been working on volume summaries. As I work, I've had to look at all of the chapters related to the volumes, obviously. And in looking at the chapters I've noticed how few of them have links within them, if any at all. For reals. Most, if not all, are missing links. And it shocks me. How could I be so oblivious?
But in all honesty I wrote most of these back when I wasn't quite sure how to use Wikia, or how I wanted the information to look. I didn't look at or study a lot of other wikis because I felt intimidated. And I churned the summaries out as fast as I could to catch up to current chapters as soon as possible. So not linking things up has become so routine to me that I haven't even thought about it until now. There's a lot of w…Read more >

I also made a change. There was the Heading 2 named "Stregths." It only existed in Iwakura's character bio, and just talked about how physically strong he was. So I changed the name to "Skills." I added that he's smart and good with combat matters. I'll have to add this the other characters. It makes sense; it's a cool way to quickly summarize cool traits about the characters.
Hopefully I'll have another improved bio done this week. As much as I hate him, I'll probably…Read more >
It just occured to me a that I've never said anything about what I like about this manga. Notice that in my head I call it "ApnoTo" (App no Toe) because ANT looks like, well, ant. I'm not going to write an essay right now, as I'm really tired, but here's a short list. Maybe I'll add more to it later. Maybe we can set up a page for people to submit their own lists, or a page with several polls. That would be cool and fun!
All are ranked from best (1) to worst (5):
- Weapons Run
- Mission to the Sea Firefly
- Death of the Original Bokor
- Child of Light Cultists
- Iwakura's concern for others
- Maeda's decreasing innocence
- Yoshioka's randomness
- Hanabata's emotions
- Daisy's regressed state
- Hitotsukabuto Kiyoharu
- Hanabata Shinpei …

Today was a pretty productive day for me. Granted I didn't leave the house after I came home from work though... I added images to Chapters... 31, 30, 29 I think? Adding images to chapters- it's a lot harder than it sounds. I thought it wasn't a big deal at first, until I started. I mean, each chapter has at least 35 pages. That's a lot of panels to scour through for a good 3-5 descriptive images. And I'm terribly indecisive, so it takes me twice as long as it needs to. "This image or this one?!" "Is this image too dark / blurry / sharp?" "Can you quickly tell what's going on in it?" "Do you need to understand the deeper meaning behind what this image shows?" Too many questions... and the work doesn't always reflect the effort that when in…Read more >
So I was randomly working on the wiki on Monday, June 9th, 2014 and happened to look up at the number of edits. I was pleasantly surprised:
This is awesome. I'm glad to see how far we've come!
Let's keep up the good work!

Here's a brief list of things I can think of that either need work or need to be addressed.
- For chapter summaries
- For a potential gallery
- To spice up character summaries
Pages that need love:
- Unnamed Cultist
- Viruses (images?)
- JSDF Garrison (image)
- Yokosuka U.S. Naval Base (image)
- The Sea Firefly (explaination of location, and what the guys have do to get there)
- Dr. Yukko Sakagami
- Chapter 33
- Chapters and Volumes
A consensus on naming:
- Are we using standard Japanese form (last name, first name) or standard (English?) form (first name, last name)? There is a lot of switching back and forth of naming formats on the wiki, and I think we need to decide how to handle this.
- I personally think we should adopt an overall (last name, f…
